Make a habit of washing your face a few hours before bed. If you wait until you're tired, you're more likely to blow it off -- allowing "toxins and dirt to stay on there all night," says dermatologist Laurie Polis of N.Y.C. Another consequence? You miss the best time to treat your skin. "At night there's more blood flow to the skin's surface, and there's nothing else on your face to interfere with absorption," Polis says.
Try: Neutrogena Deep Clean Relaxing nightly cleanser, $7; at drugstores.
2. Sleep on Your Back
Note to Audrey Hepburn fans: Lying on your stomach is bad for "beauty sleep." The average head weighs 7 to 8 pounds -- a lot of pressure to be putting on your face every night. In fact, many dermatologists say they can tell what side of the face people sleep on by the number of wrinkles there.
3. Get a Lift
Sleep with your head elevated on two pillows, or put the headrest area of your bed on 2- to 4-inch pieces of wood. Gravity helps lymph and blood flow so fluid won't accumulate, Polis says.
4. Save Money, Not Wrinkles
At night you don't need to worry about eye treatments smearing your makeup, so slather on the richest formula you can. Polis swears by Aquaphor: "It conditions lashes and hydrates the delicate eye skin really well."
Try: Aquaphor Healing ointment, $9; drugstore.com.
5. Sneak a Glow
Mix a drop of self-tanner into your night cream or use a cream that contains a bit of tan-producing DHA.
Try: Clarins Radiance-Plus self-tanning cream, $52; clarinsusa.com.
6. Avoid Carb Face
To wake with defined cheekbones, eat a high-protein, low-sugar dinner (try salmon and asparagus, a natural diuretic). Skip the rice, pasta and potatoes. "When our diet's high in glycemic carbohydrates, our features take on a soft, doughy appearance," says Connecticut dermatologist Nicholas Perricone.
7. Wrap It Up
To minimize A.M. frizz, sleep on a satin pillowcase or put your hair in a silk scarf. "Those fabrics are much softer than cotton, so there's less friction," says Harry Josh, a John Frieda stylist.
8. Find Your Inner Ballerina
Pile hair into a twist on the top of your head (use a scrunchie to avoid crimping). "In the morning you'll have major volume and beautiful waves," Josh says.
9. Turn on the Hair Conditioning
Sleep with a moisturizing treatment in damp hair overnight. We like Philip B. Katira Hair Masque, but any rich conditioner will do. Rinse in the morning.
Try: Philip B. Katira Hair Masque, $40; philipb.com.
10. Pop a Rooster Pill
Trust us, we were skeptical. But after swallowing two Wake Up on Time pills at 11 P.M., we found it much easier to get out of bed seven hours later. Created by a sleep-deprived single mother, the pills contain an energizing blend of thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamins B6 and B12 and guarana-seed extract. It's formulated with a coating that releases ingredients into your bloodstream toward the end of your last sleep cycle, so you wake up feeling clear-headed, not fuzzy.
Try: Wake Up On Time, $30/40 tablets; wakeupontime.com.

Report AbuseBeauty is SKIN DEEP....as they say. The majority of new skin gels, from algae to serums, are we all trying to look air-brushed? Genetics, cosmetic surgery, and healthy choices all play into this list. Crap..is what happens when you neglect the above mentioned by the time you are in your mid 50's. Ladies, we can all use some tips and nips..so don't be so hard on this article. I say educate yourself about your skin if you want to avoid the Plastic Surgeon. Kim Kardashian, is such a role model, as she bares it all...cellulite or whatever and she is so beautifull!!! Insecurity, is found on women of beauty sometimes as we are never satisfied. Kim, I hope youread these articles as you are really an inspiration from your Dancing with the Stars to being one!!! Do you have any secrets from your mom on beauty? She is a lovely woman with children to prove it!

Report AbuseI've got news for Rachelj et al. about the cheekbones thing: IT IS TRUE! I have naturally beautiful, clearly defined cheekbones and was always considered a beauty. Eating too many carbohydrates DID give my face a soft, doughy appearance, regardless of the cheekbones, and even obscured them, in addition to adding unwanted pounds to my body AND face! I developed pouchy bags under and around my eyes, which looked puffy. A careful diet in the past three years has reduced this puffiness and brought back the definition to my cheekbones, but the puffy eyes have remained to dog me, and I am SO SORRY for having indulged for so long in excess carbohydrates and highly refined sugars. By the way, if you really want a great case of diarrhea and painful heartburn and burping, just keep eating pepperoni pizzas and fatty ice creams! Our bodies cannot process these excess fats and sugars properly, and we just ruin our looks and fitness by indulging in them. I ruined MY looks, so I hope you will be more careful with yours!

Report AbuseAll of this advice, except for the fake tan, is good, and I have followed these practices for years, with excellent results for my age. I am brown-haired and am still attractive compared to others in my bracket. This is because I have downed super B complex pills for years; they restore hair color from gray to your natural color and you even have more hair in your eyebrows and your receding hairline fills out again! I was astonished by that, but it's true - it really happens! But the best sources of vitamins are natural fresh vegetables and fruits and whole grains and very lean, small amounts of meats, and I always have milk and yogurt in my diet, too. I am very healthy and get my tanning in small fifteen minute doses by going out of doors and getting some healthy exercise and exposing my face and whatever else is appropriate for the weather to the sunshine. Clean living is its own rewards: no drugs, drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes or weed (which can cause atrial fibrillation of the heart (no heartbeat; it just sits there and quivers) and death in certain individuals), and regular daily fun exercise like dancing or doing outdoor chores or yoga or stretches or calisthenics or housework or chores that makes you bend and move around a lot are just the ticket. Also, chill out and instead of worrying about anything or getting angry about things, just work things out by taking small actions one at a time to solve your problems, and confide in a trusted person who has a good head on their shoulders and wisdom to share. Pay attention to people who are productive and happy; the older ones have some of the secrets of a happy, good life to share with you.
