A grey hair cure may be available in 10 years

For some women, going grey is a natural and beautiful part of the aging process. For others, the disappearance of hair pigment means spending lots of dough on hair dye or more frequent trips to the salon. If you fall into the second category, prepare to have your mind blown. Cosmetics company L'Oreal has been conducting extensive research on a treatment that will potentially restore your natural hair color, and prevent greys from ever showing up.

"When hair goes gray, there is a progressive disappearance of the melanocytes from the hair," explains Patricia Pineau, L'Oreal Research Communications. "While there are still melanocytes in the hair, there is still hope that it could be re-pigmented."

L'Oreal spends nearly $1 billion annually on research--about twice as much as its competitors--and after 100 years of hard work, they believe they've come up with a probable solution to eliminate greying. The process would target the hair inside and out with oral supplements and a topical hair care treatment. With further research, the company says the treatment should be ready for the public in 10 years. That seems a long way off, but if it works, readers in their 20s and 30s (or maybe 40s if you're lucky) who still maintain their natural color may never have to face grey hair!

If this treatment becomes available and affordable would you try it? [Daily Mail]

Yes.... my hair is already going gray pretty extensively... I found my first gray hair at the age of 20... I'm 28... I was hoping I could get much older than my mother did when she went totally gray... I know I seem a bit vain, but I love my hair color, I don't want to dye it (because my natural color is a very dynamic brunette that has reds and blondes intertwined with the browns).... I have resorted to a hair glaze for now because the grays aren't predominate.... but I was hoping to at least get half way into my 30's before I started graying.... or at least had a kid first (so I could blame the grays on them)... however, it may be too late for me... :(

I don't want to hold off being gray forever, just while I am still young.

I started going gray in my late teens. At 36 I am almost 80% gray. Although I dye my hair religously every 3 weeks to cover the pesky grays, I decided that at 40 I would cut my hair off into a short pixie cut and let the gray grow in. I am going to embrace the color, maybe add some highlights or low lights to break up the color. My older sister on the other hand would be all over the cure. She made me promise that on her death bed I must dye her hair so that she can be cremated without any grays. Crazy!

I read somewhere that grey hair is caused by smoking and lack of copper in the diet.

multivitamin with copper and selenium, plus munching on raw almonds should help.

My mom started getting gray hairs in the early 40's which scares me to death that I will start in about 20 years. My mom does embrace her grays but she often dyes her roots to hide them. However, she always tells me that it's a beautiful part of the aging process. She also refuses to use anti-wrinkle cream although she does take care of her skin. I'm the total opposite, I am using SPF + Anti Aging creams now at 19. I don't want to risk and try to treat it when it's too late.

I'll just try to go grey gracefully. I'm afraid of the chemicals in hair dye.

And then there are actually the fortunate ones, using my mom as an example, that don't start greying until their late 50's etc. Oh how the mad scientists: The Human Life Alchemists try to save the race to preserve their Beauties....I would rather concentrate on how to improve the inner soul of one's vessel.

I'm only 24 and I have no idea what I will feel about being grey when I'm older... but I'd like to think that I would embrace old age and accept the fact that I'm getting older and not trying to fight it!
