How Should I Dress For Work?

So I am in a bit of a bind. My husband and I own a small motorcycle/offroad shop (dirt bikes, atv, jetski's) and I am not certain about how I should dress for our business. I know other companies wear polo's (definitely not my, or my husbands, cup of tea) and slacks. I also am pursuing a sign business (hey I already have the commercial location so lets put it to work twofold) so I again need to look professional. This is not the environment to wear a skirt since I have to ride bikes and such and flip flops are out (how unprofessional come on). HELP ME! I have no clue what to do here.

Dress the part, I think someone should be in front, dressed for success. If that's not your cup of tea, then at least press the laid back outfits you are going to wear, and don't forget to pleat the pants. Pleating, even blue jeans brings them up a level! Enjoy!

    Hi Superkate,

I appreciate you posting on my blog. I Enjoy alot of the country artists you mentioned however, I would say my top country artists are

Barbara Mandrell, because my Grandmother loved her tv show and my best friend from college grew up by her in Nashville. Wonderful lady and performer

Tammy Wynette and George Jones. I dated a guy who really was into George Jones, so it was sort of like, we listened to George, then we listened to Tammy.

Loretta Lynn. I remember after seeing Coal Miner's Daughter, how I just fell in love with her - - that is one of my favorite movies and I just really enjoy her songs.

    Thanks so much for sharing,

    Mocha Mama

Professional dress* with a taste of leather pencil skirt and a nice blouse. It's one of the sexiest outfits for work, and is professionally dress. It WILL enhance your curves and make you look like a bomb shell with nice high heels... yup. *

samanthakuelovecupcake - Your response shows that you didn't read my description. Heels do NOT work. Have you ever changed a tire? Have you ever done it in a pencil skirt, nice blouse & high heels. That would be a no go. What a great way to waste your money by ruining your clothes.

Can you wear comfortable sports clothes? Salamon makes great active-wear shoes (buy shoes from Zappos.com - great prices, free shipping and free shipping on returns!)

Columbia cargo pants, and outdoor shirts from REI might be good; darker colors are better - white? - no way! Even blue jeans are typically uncomfortable hence the reason I like good cargo pants for travel and landscaping work. Even LL Beane and Eddie Bauer have good outdoor clothing. These clothes are designed to be well-worn, repell dirt better than most clothes and are comfortable in an active environment.

Wearing business casual for say a law office would look odd at your business. Take a look at a Columbia or REI type stores.

I don't know how your shop looks. I know the place I go for small engine work is a really filthy place (the owner doesn't care how he looks or smells, but he does great work, always has the best advice for products and service, and all I care about is great service.) I've been to Harley shops and they are clean and topnotch on looks. There is a wide gambit so what you wear depends...as a consultant would say.

I am glad to hear you ask for advice. Tell sme you care how you look and what your customers think of your appearance. It is important no matter what people say, and the reason why "What Not To Wear" has been one of the highest rated cable shows for years.

Okay, Since you can't work on cars in a skirt, you don't have to wear a skirt. You can wear some black skinny comfortable jeans. Because it's black, it may look more professional than wearing light colored jeans. You can still dress casualy while working on a car. How hard it that? A black collar top, or dark gray, even navy blue may look very nice and professional with black jeans or dark dark jeans. By the way, your not the only girl in this world who has changed a tired who thinks she 's going to get her clothes dirty and it's a waste of money. Professional dress counts. That's why people wear uniforms even to fix cars. It doesn't have to be a polo top too. Many people can wear a nice size fitted t -shirt to a causal top no matter how dirty the work could get, every business needs to be professional in appearance. Wear some causal looking tennis shoes if you can't where heels. Take it easy. Try to get comfortable wearing darker colored, nicer clothing for your business.
