Yellow sundresses can be sexy and hip

I'm weirdly reading an advanced copy of American On Purpose, an autobiography by Craig Ferguson (you know him, he's the Scottish, hot-for-an-older-dude, late night host who's on after Letterman). In it, he tells all sorts of stories about life in '70s Scotland, and what it was like to live (and drink a lot) in the East Village of New York City in the '80s. So far, however, the detail that has struck me the most is when Ferguson describes meeting his future wife for the first time and how she was wearing a yellow, '50s-style dress that made her look ultra-sexy and "terminally hip." I'd never thought about yellow nor '50s-style dresses in quite that way, but today when I searched  on eBay, I could see what he meant. Paired with red lipstick and neat, pretty hair; these could make one appear flirty and kittenish in a very Heather-Graham-at-the-end-of-Swingers way (a movie which, outdated lines or no, I still consider a masterpiece).
