Giving Pink : Shop To Fight Breast Cancer

Marimekko® for AVON Crusade Tote
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a time when pink ribbons fly freely. Here are my top gift picks that give back and are perfect for giving:

(pictured above) Top Pick - The Hot Tote: The cult favorite Marimekko® has teamed up with AVON this October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month with the Crusade Tote, $10. Done in Marimekko's classic Unikko print each bright bag gives 100% of net profits to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. The buzz about this tote has been unreal with everyone and their mum clamoring for one... Marimekko for $10? Unheard of and this bright funky Unikko floral print really pops and looks luxe. I love using totes like these in place of gift wrap and paper gift bags... just add tissue paper and give.

Candles:
This October look for Voluspa candles and diffusers in the scent Pink Panjore Lychee which will give back 20% each to the breast cancer cause Young Survival Coalition. $29. to $48. each. As seen in Better Homes and Gardens.

Archipelago has created the Ribbons of Love Candle, $17.50 with a portion of proceeds being donated to The City of Hope. Also look for their Ribbons of Hope candles and home fragrance also benefiting breast cancer causes.

Jewelry:
Once again Payless shoe stores have created a bracelet to bring both funds and awareness to Breast Cancer Awareness month, for only $2. proceeds will go to benefit Susan G. Kormen for the Cure. Find them online and in stores.

The quirky yet uber cool Have a Heart collection by Brooklyn artist Margaux Lange, created out of fashion doll parts, will donate $5. from each sale of that specific collection to Susan G. Komen Foundation to help find a cure for breast cancer. As seen in Time Out New York.

Roxy Quick Silver has created an adorable pink awareness rubber bracelet with proceeds going to Keep A Breast for breast cancer. $5-$3. each. Super sweet for all the little girls in your life.

To Wear:
The latest Power in Pink line by Under Armour
has been created to spread the message that keeping fit is an important way to help fight breast cancer. 5% of the retail price will be donated to the American Breast Cancer Foundation, ASL Cancer Fund, Casting for Recovery, Hoffberger Breast Cancer at Mercy and The Red Devils.

Be sure to visit Saks 5th Ave this year for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer's latest collection including their classic blue bull's eye tee shirts designed by Ralph Lauren and other pieces including a handbag and charm bracelet designed by Stephen Dweck, Diane von Furstenberg, Lisa Jenks, and Betsey Johnson.

Designer Michelle Roy has created the pink Breast Cancer Bow collection, $72. with 20% of proceeds going to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

LACOSTE has created a whole bundle of gifts worthy pieces that will bring awareness to breast cancer and give back to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Included are their classic beach towels (which are really rather nice and plush), $55. done in light pink along with a fragrance, $68. and flip flops, $33. Find them on lacoste.com starting October 1st. As seen in Elle.

Saks 5th Avenue has also created a shirt, this time teaming up with designer Michael Kors, for an exclusive devoted to breast cancer awareness and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Find it on sale at Saks this October.

Ford has created the Warriors In Pink line with 100% of net proceeds being donated to the Susan G. Korman for the Cure to breast cancer. Many coming to Gave That are on the search for an online source for the breast cancer woven scarf and their website, fordcares.com has it here for $38.00 each. Also find cute flip flops, tons of shirts, hats and even neckties benefiting the cause.

Hanes has teamed up with Sarah Chalke to create a cute shirt for only $5. along with socks, underwear and bras for Susan G. Kormen's Passionately Pink for the Cure program.

Sweet Tooth:
This October check out Crumbs for a special pink ribbon cupcake (they have darling pink ribbon sprinkles on them!) where a portion of proceeds from each one sold will go to the National Breast Cancer Coalition. And yes they do ship via the mail... all non-NYer's rejoice! As seen in Self magazine.

For Children & The Young At Heart:
Dressbarn has created a cute little toy dog which you can adopt at your local store for $5. called Biscuit. Kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, every little Biscuit you adopt will give back to the American Cancer Society.

Kimmie Cares is an amazing line of dolls that help children learn about and cope with the effects and treatment of cancer. Especially breast cancer. Proceeds from the sale of these incredible dolls and book series funds the Partners for a Cure Foundation. These would be a wonderful donation to your local pediatric hospitals and a major give twice gift.

More:
Louisville Stoneware has teamed up with National Garden Clubs Inc., to create the Pink Breast Cancer Charity Wren House with 10% of proceeds being donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure (from April 1, 2009 – March 31, 2010.). $65.00. Each is handcrafted in Kentucky by by the Stoneware company founded in 1815. An heirloom in the making for sure. As seen in Better Homes and Gardens.

Stop by philosophy and pick up a few bottles of She Colors My Day, and Shower for a Cure, $20 where 100% of net proceeds from both are donated to the Women's Cancer Research Fund.

The Young Survival Coalition has put together their 2009 collaboration list benefiting their cause... included on their list are numerous give twice worthy gift ideas such as: Oakley sunglasses, Mikimoto pearls, Lauren Merkin passport holders, classic Nahui Ollin bags and Robyn Rhodes necklaces. Get the full scoop here.

Don't buy pink junk; donate directly to the organizations that fund research, work for a cure, and try to make patients' lives better. Consumerism is not activism. Buying something lets us off the hook: I've made a difference, I've donated, and I got this really nifty pink water bottle to show how dedicated I am to the cause. Of the $25 you might spend on a pink ribbon product, only a portion of that will go to breast cancer work. And those amounts are usually capped at $X amount by agreement between the retailer and the charity. $25 given directly makes a much bigger impact than $25 given to a company partnering (for marketing purposes) with a breast cancer organization.
