Bring Halloween inside

Every year, ghouls begin showing up in front yards. But don't be a monster with the kids ... decorate the great indoors too this Halloween.

If you're like most people, most of your concentration in terms of decorating for Halloween takes place on the outside of your home. But why stop there? Today, there is a huge variety of Halloween home decorations you can incorporate to bring some ghoulish fun to your interior "living" space.

Halloween Home Decoration Ideas:

Halloween is a time of year when everyone can feel like a kid again. It's a time to unwind for a night, to overindulge on sweets, and generally have a good time. Here are a few ideas you can incorporate to add some interior charm and atmosphere to your Halloween home decorations.

• Accent your living room, dining room, and hallways with the colors of Halloween. These include purple, black, green, and orange. Oh, and don't forget the red, as in blood-red!

• Spend a Saturday afternoon creating Halloween crafts with your children. You can use these items to add a personal touch to your holiday decorating. Make a spooky, cobwebbed wreath, print out some Halloween printables for the kids to color, or make polymer clay figurines of your favorite monsters.

• Just like you do for Christmas and Thanksgiving, set the dining room table with Halloween-themed accessories. Most shops have tablecloths, napkins, dish towels, dinnerware, and other dining room items in fun, Halloween themes.

• For do-it-yourself Halloween home decorations, visit the websites of home and garden television channels like HGTV.com or DIYNetwork.com. There are a ton of useful and budget-conscious ideas that you can design into your home's eerie theme.

Additional Halloween Home Decorations:

If you really want your interior Halloween home decorations to be over-the-top, add a fair amount of cobwebs, ambient lighting like candles or black lights, dead flowers, chains (paper or metal), and cover your furniture with white or gray sheets. If you're planning a party, throw in a small fog machine (be sure to keep the windows cracked) and a strobe light.

Plan your haunted house décor right and your (grave) yard won't be the only area of your home demanding attention this Halloween.
