Just for my own interest, and I hope that of others who drop by to add their two cents, I'd like to know what you pay for the things in your life. Please, if you don't mind when responding, add the nearest large city you live by and your state, for a more interesting comparison.
Here's what I pay for.
In the Buffalo, N.Y. area, I spend about $1,000 annually for car insurance on a late-model Chevy with high coverage. My homeowner's insurance is about $540 annually for replacement cost coverage with a high deductible for a house just over 1,000 sq. ft.
Gas was about $3.85 a gallon last week, but has gone down to around $3.55 this week. It used to cost $50 to fill the tank, now about $42.
In the food area, produce runs like this: peaches @ $1.69 lb., 5lbs. white potatoes are $2.49 this week. Iceberg lettuce was $1.79, while a 3-pack of Romaine is $3.99.
Whole wheat bread (commercially baked) @ $2.29 a loaf, or $3.59 for in-store bakery. Commerical cookies are anywhere from $2.29 for animal crackers to $2.99 for Keebler chocolate chips. White flour was $2.89 last time I bought it. Sugar also same price; both 5lbs.
White pasta (store brand) $1.19 unless on sale. Ronzoni SmartTaste is $1.79 per pound pkg., and Barilla whole grains is $1.59. Store brand sauce is between .99 and $1.49 depending on what week it is.
Store brand frozen veggies are .88 a bag, and their ice cream is usually $2.49 a half gallon. Name brand veggies $1.89, and ice cream starting @ $3.99. I'm lucky that my supermarket's brand products are of excellent quality.
Jeans @ Old Navy are about $29.99 for the current hot styles. You can usually find sale jeans for $20. Solid color and graphic tee's are usually 2/4 $16. Sale prices can be as low as $3.99 each.
Well, I can't think of any other things to try to compare, but if you come up with something else you'd like to see discussed, please add that.
Thanks for any responses.

Report AbuseAll I know is now I give store brands more of a chance. I eat in more I try to use my car as smartly as I can. I also don't throw away money anymore. I go to the store with a list and a budget in my head. I used to come home with all these little extras. Not anymore.I don't know what we all will do if things get any worse.

Maybe I wasnt a good candidate to post here. Lol. I try not to pay attention too much to the prices on those things, because no matter what the cost, we have to pay them.

Report AbuseMisty, you are a good candidate because you DO pay attention to what you're spending; that's why you know the prices. It looks like food is kinda crazy everywhere, but especially the milk. Can't understand why. I find it interesting that clothing remains constant from state to state though.
I forgot to ask what your sales tax was too. Ours is 8.75%. Alot of people here complain about the tax and think it's cheaper to live in Florida. Seniors tend to migrate there for the winter after retirement; we call them snowbirds.

Report AbuseYeah some of those utilities DO seem really over-priced. I forgot to include mine, which can also be a good touchstone for the way or economies vary from state to state.
Our electric is about $75 - 80 monthly. Gas is $120 - 130, and we are also on budget billing. Cable/high speed internet is $103 a month. We don't use a house phone; both our cell phones run $96 on the same bill. Water is quarterly @ about $50. I see that is really low compared to western states. Which makes sense, I suppose.
BTW, MochMama, do you eat all organic? Your organic prices listed look like the pricing for regular crap elsewhere. That's great for you, let me know.
