Women: Don't lose track of the money in your marriage
No matter how uncomfortable talking about money and asking questions of each other is, we need to do it. If you don’t know exactly how much debt you have as a couple, how much money comes in and goes out each month, how many accounts you have and whose name they are in and how much is in them, make it a point to find out. Now.

I’ve seen smart, smart women suddenly realize they don’t know how much money is in investment accounts, and learn when it is too late that money has been moved around and spent by their “partners” without their knowledge. Others have no real clue what’s on their joint tax returns. Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (1) | Blog

Working mother Jennifer Zipp was on maternity leave when she got the call. Laid off, along with 800 others in her company. She was a new mom, a new homeowner, and supplied the main source of income for her family. How did she stay positive?

Volunteer your way back into the workforce
A great way to make the transition from home to work is to start by doing meaningful volunteer work. Take Cathy Paris for instance. Will $5 extra really make a difference
The Federal minimum wage rose 70 cents, from $5.85 to $6.55 last week. This works out to roughly $5 day, based on an 8 hour working day (less taxes). Will this really make a difference for millions of Americans who are on minimum wage, already struggling with higher gas and food prices? The minimum wage adjustment is an almost 12% raise, but most of it will be eaten up by inflation which is officially running at close to 5% annually -- unofficially it is much higher with basic groceries up more than 20% in many states. Kids and TV: Welcome to the working mom's guilt show
One of the things I always tell other parents -- especially other working moms who are struggling with their juggling of career and motherhood -- is that they shouldn't feel guilty for letting their little kids watch TV if they need to get their work done.

It's something I really believe is OK. It's something I do more often than I'd like. And it's something that makes me feel like a total hypocrite because, half a lifetime ago, when I was a nanny, I never turned the TV on when the kids were around. Ever. Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (11) | Blog
