They say fame costs, and it certainly is taking a heavy toll on these stars

Sometimes it seems like fame, fortune and fantastic opportunities are wasted on celebrities. These spoiled bold-faced names have done their best to mess up their golden lives with bad attitudes, foolish choices and rude behavior. Read on to discover the people who have done so little with so very much.
10. Jessica Simpson
Even Jessica would probably admit that 2009 was not her year. On a concert tour, her weight and high-waisted jeans were ridiculed and the 29-year-old forgot the words to her own songs, prompting her to run off stage in tears in February. After being dumped by boyfriend Tony Romo in the summer and losing her dog, Daisy, a few weeks ago, Jessica appeared incoherent when talking about her own handbag line on QVC earlier this month. “You know more about my bags than I do,” she confessed on the air to host Patti Reilly.
9. Jon Gosselin
Jon Gosselin blew any hope of garnering public sympathy with his obnoxious behavior in the aftermath of his split from his wife and reality show co-star, Kate. He romanced several gullible younger women, took $180,000 from a joint bank account (which a judge ordered him to give back), and antagonized the producers of Jon & Kate Plus 8 so much that he is being sued for breach of contract. The delusional 33-year-old’s recent request for $12,000 to appear on a Florida radio station was met with laughter.
8. Amy Winehouse
This British soul singer’s drug fueled-rampages, rehab stays, turbulent marriage and scary skinny appearance made many forget how good her 2006 album Back To Black actually was. Amy hit rock bottom many times, including an incident in 2007 recounted by her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, when she nearly died from a seizure allegedly caused by heroin and crack use. Amy, now 26, claims she’s kicked the habit. She also recently had a boob job for prepare for her comeback.
7. Courtney Love
Once she was a rock icon, but over the years, Courtney has become more famous for flashing her private parts, yo-yo dieting, melting down in public and incoherent cyberspace rants. In 2004, her weird behavior got so bad that authorities had to handcuff her to a stretcher before hauling her away to a hospital. Though the 45-year-old recently started looking better, American Express, who claims she owes more than $300,000 on her credit cards, is suing her.
6. Kevin Federline
The only one who didn’t recognize Kevin as trouble was singer Britney Spears, who married the former back-up dancer in 2004. His hunger for fame resulted in the awful reality series Britney & Kevin: Chaotic in 2005 and his laughable rap debut Playing With Fire. Kevin, 31, also did some modeling, acting and appeared in the WWE wrestling ring. More recently, he made new headlines for his weight gain and a lawsuit charging that he skipped out on $110,000 in back rent and left his former home a “disgusting mess.” Naturally, he’s set to star in a new reality series as well as Celebrity Fit Club.
5. Tara Reid
Her 2005 travel series, Taradise, was supposed to be a fun peek at the world’s most glamorous nightlife, but host Tara’s apparent hard partying and increasingly sloppy appearance made it hard to watch. Her reputation as an actress who charmed in 1999’s American Pie was eventually overshadowed by her hot mess, party-girl image. By 2004, she wasn’t even hot anymore after a bad boob job and liposuction to her stomach resulted in scarring. With no real career anymore, Tara, 33, recently agreed to pose nude for Playboy.
4. Lily Allen
The 23-year-old British hellion has frequently been photographed being carried out of bars or award shows and appears to forget her underwear on a regular basis. In 2008, Lily even got into a drunken war of words with Sir Elton John as he hosted a British awards show. “I became more famous for being a train wreck than a singer,” she admitted on The View in April. But her self-awareness hasn't changed her — earlier this month she had another wardrobe malfunction as she exited a London nightclub.
3. Paula Abdul
American Idol won’t be the same now that unpredictable judge Paula, famous for her odd non-sequiturs, has exited the judges’ table. Paula, 47, who has admitted to a 12-year painkiller addiction, also spread her weirdness around by throwing tantrums on her short-lived reality series, Hey Paula, acting bizarrely during a Fox News interview and failing to make sense during a 2005 Saturday Night Live appearance. “I remember thinking, 'She's a disaster! I gotta prop this lady up and get her on TV,” Tina Fey told Playboy.
2. Kanye West
Yes, he’s a great performer, but Kanye, 32, is also one of Hollywood’s biggest brats. His bad behavior has included hijacking a telethon with a rant when he was supposed to be raising money for Hurricane Katrina victims, tantrums over not winning at awards shows and physical fights with the paparazzi. And even President Obama called him a “jackass” for crashing Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at September’s MTV Video Music Awards.
1. Lindsay Lohan
At 23, Lindsay’s already had two DUI arrests and three stays in rehab — but that hasn’t even slowed her down. Most recently, she narrowly escaped a jail sentence for missing the deadline for the completion of her court-mandated alcohol education classes, went on a Twitter tirade against her girlfriend Samantha Ronson’s family, sought a restraining order against her father, Michael, got her lips plumped to the point where she could barely close her mouth and reportedly collapsed from too much partying during a trip to Paris.
