29 things a gal should know about the kitchen before leaving her 20's!

  1. How to slice, quarter, dice and mince an onion without crying.
  2. How to clean the oven after you have exploded dinner in it.
  3. Have an excellent chocolate chip cookie recipe.
  4. Ask your mother and grandmother for their favorite recipes and know how to make them so you can pass them on to your kids.
  5. Know how to make at least one great salad dressing from scratch
  6. How to make tomato sauce from scratch (especially if you are Italian!)
  7. Know how to make your husbands favorite meal (you never know when you’ll have to use that one!)
  8. Have the ability to have people over for cocktails and serve them something to eat that wasn’t frozen at one point.
  9. Be able to identify at least 5 different mushrooms and know how to use them.
  10. Be able to identify at least 5 different cheeses and how to use them. (American doesn’t count)
  11. Know how to make a breakfast besides cereal.
  12. Know how to prepare and make eggplant.
  13. What kind food goes with red and white wines.
  14. How to properly cook an egg.
  15. Bake a cake from scratch (we’re 29, boxes are so over!)
  16. Make soup from scratch
  17. Learn to identify and cook 5 vegetables you have never heard of.
  18. Learn to make ethnic food so you are not always ordering take-out
  19. Have a fabulous dish you can bring to any pot luck
  20. How to throw a baby or bridal shower (chances are you have or are about to start throwing these)
  21. How to set a place setting
  22. What to do with leftover wine.
  23. Have a signature cocktail
  24. What to have in your pantry at all times
  25. How to plant and use fresh herbs
  26. How to create a beautiful table
  27. How to plate your food like a professional
  28. How to be a gracious guest
  29. The proper usage of each knife
