Inspirational Story: "The Toy and the Box"

A dad feeling guilty for always working long hours and never spending time with his kid, decides to stop by a toy store after work.

What is the coolest toy this season? The Dad asked.
The clerk took him to the aisle where he could find the biggest, coolest toys for that season.
After a couple of minutes, the dad made his decision.
“With this toy, my kid will be happy, I’m sure he’ll love me again, it does not matter if we will be tight with money for the next two weeks. I want him to enjoy this toy” The dad said.
He arrived home with a box almost as big as him and with the hope that his kid will forgive him for never being there. When the kid saw the box, he was astonished with the size. He wondered what it was.
Go ahead, open it! Said the dad
The kid opened the box and found in it the toy that had been advertise on TV.
The kid looked amazed, he took the toy out, looked at it, pushed some buttons, and then sat it aside.
Thanks dad, but you can play with it now! The kid said
What do you mean I can play with it now, it is your toy, I bought it for you. The dad replied
By this time, the kid had sat next to the humongous box, and was staring at it.
I don’t want that, said the kid
The dad got furious, he had spent so much money for nothing, and he was going to teach his kid to appreciate a present. He punished him and sent him to his room for the rest of the day.
As the kid was going to his room crying, he was dragging the big box the toy had came in to his room. He did not understand why his dad was mad at him.
Before going to bed, the dad felt guilty for punishing his son. All what he wanted was his kid to love him, but it hasn’t worked.
I will go see him now, and tell him how much I love him, he said
Son, are you awake?
Yes, Dad, I am.
Forgive me, I thought you were going to be happy with the toy,
 said the dad
I am, It has been the best toy you have given me, the kid reply
But you didn’t even play with it?
I have, I turned the toy into a car, and then into a rocket, and then into tree house,
 the kid reply.
The dad was confused, what do you mean? He asked his son.
Dad, come play with me, we can both fit into the big box you gave me. I will show you how to imagine being an astronauts fighting aliens. Just imagine and play with me.

Our imagination as kids have no boundaries, So why is it that toys nowadays have just that? Have we forgotten that imagination is more important than memorization of facts? Have we forgotten that new discoveries are made everyday and that the facts that we learned 10 years ago are no longer true? We must nurture our kids imagination with toys that enhance their creativity like Dados and Twigs so that they can make the discoveries of tomorrow.
