Leona Lewis Sticks Up for Her Electrician Boyfriend. Do You Ever Have To Defend Your Guy's Job?
partner
A reporter at
The Observer recently asked
Leona Lewis about how the press has a "snide
bewilderment" with her boyfriend of seven years who is an
electrician. And her response was so incredibly honest and
sweet...
When the reporter asked Leona if she finds the fascination with
her relationship to be offensive, she said:
"I find it very offensive. It's like, seriously? This
is real life, it isn't make-believe. For people to think that
you should leave someone because, all of a sudden, you're a
singer and you have opportunities. I feel very sorry for them. It
does make me angry. Because he's a great person. And it
doesn't matter what you do in life, what your job is, where you
come from. None of that matters to me, what matters is who you are
as a person—nothing else."
I've always thought Leona had a beautiful voice (I listened
to "Bleeding Love" on repeat for days and days when it
first came out), but her answer was so brutally honest and sincere,
it makes me love her even more.
Have you ever had to defend your guy's job to your
family or friends? Have you ever been ashamed to say what he does?
And what do you think of Leona's
response?
P.S.
What's your boyfriend's job, and
what's your job?
Ever feel like your job is ruining your
relationship?

That would be irritating to me, I mean why should anyone have to defend being an electrician? he has a job, it takes knowledge and skill and a license, we all need them at some point in our lives, new homes wouldnt be wired without them, his job is not below any one elses, she is a singer and he is an electrician so why is he below her or anyone else for that matter in some people eyes?

No ones job is above or below anyone elses! Sure they may get more pay and require years of schooling, training and degrees or talent others dont have or havent explored, but a bigger paycheck or bigger title doesnt make you more of a person, you just have different knowledge and skills, doesnt mean your lacking them.

My husband is a soldier and I encounter people who will make stupid comments and remarks quite a bit, mostly out of ignorance, sometimes out of sheer idiocy. WTG Leona for sticking with him and telling the press what you think of their inquiries!

My man IS an electrician, and a damn fine one at that. I am going to school to be an architect and work at a bank. Yes, I do get offended when people say "he didn't go to college?", or "so you'll be the one bringing home the bacon". There are plenty of successful people who never graduated college. Its not for everyone. But yes, I agree with her supporting him 1000%. People are so wrapped up in "Hollywood Life" that they forget that without blue collar workers there would be no Hollywood. Someone has to do the dirty work- and those that do it deserve respect for their hard work. Im proud to be with him- without a degree or social "status".

I'm an office manager and make twice the amount of money that my boyfriend does, who works as a grounds keeper at a golf course. We've been together for 5 years and I do pay most of the bills, but I couldn't imagine anyone treating me as good as he does. I used to know how to cook until I started dating him LOL He cooks me dinner every night and randomly send flowers to my work just because. I can see how it would be easier for some relationships if both people were in the same field of work, but that shouldn't be what the important thing is.

My husband is an engineer, so no I don't have to defend his career choice... however, people are often astonished that I was able to grab on to someone so smart (he went to a prestigeous east coast school)... which gets on my nerves....
But I do agree with Leona's assessment... My brother works as an electrician/heating and air technician (and he is a very good one as well).... his last girlfriend didn't think that was good enough... thankfully she is gone now and his current girlfriend is fine with him the way he is...

My boyfriends dad is a master electrician, one of the best in the state I'm told. And he is on a few committees and travels a couple times a year for it.. His wife is a teacher and they have the freedom to take the whole summer off together. And I think technically she has a higher income. But its just silly to think one of them has more prestige than the other. Both love what they do and therefore find their lives very rewarding. Isn't that what really matters?

The guy I was head over heels for left me because I wasn't finished with school and the job I had while in school was less than desirable. He thought that as a business owner he should be with someone just as successful. He's marrying a wonderfully successful women in a few months and he's miserable. I love it!!

My husband is in maintenance also. So people do make comments until I say I've nevered called a repairman...don't need to. And they don't have a problem asking me if my "maintenance man" can help them with something on their house either. The money he makes goes a long way because he does everything himself.
