What's hot in hair this fall?

Short, long, blonde, bangs? We’re not saying that hair makes a woman, but we’ll confess: We are a helluva lot happier on a good hair day. A fresh cut, the perfect hair color, the right updo and we’re gleaming from the outside in. To ensure that our tresses are headed in the right direction in terms of style and allure, we asked Manhattan hairstylist Paul Podlucky to share with our beautiful audience the best cuts, colors and styles for now and forever …

We moved away from stick-straight hair: We’re going to continue to see more movement with hair. Hairstyles are a bit more tousled, and we're seeing more curls and updos. Celebrities are opting for updos that are more relaxed and not so rigid or formal, as seen here on Jessica Simpson. I’m seeing this look on the women coming out for fall and spring fashion shows. When I walked by Prada this morning, the mannequin's hair was up also ...

High ponytails and buns: When the hair is down, it brings the eyes down. When the hair is up, it brings the eyes up – creating an instant face-lift, much like we see here on Meryl Streep.

Ten Celebrity Hairstyles That Take Off Ten Years

Easy, sexy hair: Do-it-yourself hair (which is chic but not-so-perfect) is being paired with beautiful, carefully done makeup. Think loose bun with hairpins. Curly hair is also making a comeback. We’re seeing less people with hair that’s all one length. It’s more about waves and movements. It brings me back to the 1940-esque bobs and finger waves. Easy, sexy hair will last forever, such as this classic look on Jennifer Aniston.

Bad Hair: A Photo Tribute to the Worst Hairstyles

Bold but understated color: As seen here with Angelina Jolie, monotone haircolor is not just in but very alluring. Richer, deeper tones and richer browns are perfect for autumn. Blondes who want to change their look but keep their color can go for an ombré effect with low lights in the back.

The updo looks more like a "mess do" and what's with all the colors? Looks awful.

Yeah, I agree with you QueenofWands (rad name by the way). That updo looks TOO messy and all the different shades of blonde looks like it was made with fake hair pieces that dont match.

I think a little mess is sexy, but there IS a line. This sorta crosses it, I think.

The "toussled" look always looks nice on others, but on me I think it just looks messy! Or that I am in need of a haircut!

yeah tossled is hard to pull off, i even tried the herbal essence tossle me softly made myhair look a lil dried out and frizzy, i am definatly due for a hair make over, it's been black for 5 years now and it's either the wet curly look, or board straight.

ive found to get the wavy look that if you have longish/ medium lenght layers, take a curling iron to it. the larger curlingirons make it more natural looking
