Report AbuseBreakfast at Tiffany's is totally ruined by Mickey Rooney in yellowface. His buck toothed squinty eyed caricature of a Japanese man is so racist and horrible. The film has not aged well because of those unfortunate scenes. It is a product of an earlier and less enlightened time. And no, Audrey Hepburn, lovely as she is, does not save or excuse it.

Report AbuseWhy in the world do every last one of these "must-haves" feature white folks almost exclusively? Have people of color not contributed a single film or cinema performance worth owning? Why is The Color Purple not a must-have along the likes of these films? Or a Malcolm X? Or Do the Right Thing? Or even Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? Not to mention, the film contributions of Asian, Latino, and others. I mean, really!
Just how long do these folks expect diverse peoples to accept the message that we "must" consume these, albeit impressive, dominant cultural expressions, while none of us are being impressed upon to squeeze a single accomplished person of color into our movie viewing routines? How long?
