Do dogs really smile?

Do dogs really smile? That was the question the editors at The Bark magazine set out to answer. They did so by asking readers to send them pictures of their happy puppies. Eight years later, they are showing us the pick of the litter in the picture book Dog Joy: The Happiest Dogs in the Universe. Courtesy of its publishers at Rodale Inc., here’s a special peek inside Dog Joy — and after you take a peek, tell us: Do dogs really smile?

This is Sophie. She loves to laugh, especially after a day of chasing her rubber pig.

Lexi is happiest when enjoying the simplest things in life: a treat, a walk to the park, a back scratch and getting in the car to go to the beach.

And just in time for Halloween here's Hedra in her Halloween costume. As Mark Twain said, "Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been."

Yep, I think my labs are always smiling, cause they're just happy dogs, but I've watched my BF's pitbull as soon as you start scratching his butt, the corners start turning up into a full blown grin!!! wierd....

I think that dogs like humans have emotions...we read them wrong sometimes but i deffinately know that when i walk in the door from a long day of work and my pomeranian and chihuahua see me they deffinately are happy. whether its a "smile" is up to the scientist but they are my little girls and i don't care what it is defined as.....they smile and have a full range of emotions. they are pets not science projects....they are my children and i just LOVE them both!!!
