There's an in-depth interview with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the new issue of Vogue and--though we haven't always been the former senator's biggest fans--in this story, we were mightily impressed. Clinton comes across as a woman who's strong, independent, well-prepared, fair, deeply knowledgeable, thoughtful, and good at her job. Much of the article takes place behind the scenes, as writer Jonathan Van Meter follows Clinton through last summer's weeks-long tour of Africa. The result is a fascinating, West Wing-ian read, a window into the lives of high level public officials abroad. But it's also worth picking up for Clinton herself, who seems a very different, more genuine, relaxed, and candid politician than the one who was dodging fake bullets and fighting dirty with Obama just last year.

Losing her life's dream (or being freed from it?) has pressed the secretary of State's reset button in an interesting way. Hillary Clinton has spent her entire career looking bug-eyed with incredulity when an interviewer asks her whatever question she most expects at that moment. Her theatrical bemusement was more convincing than usual on Monday’s Today show, however, when Ann Curry asked what she says to people who are “concerned that you have been marginalized.” Read More »

Historically speaking, women have been left out of the most important conversations regarding war and peace until fairly recently. (Only 17 percent of the seats in the US Congress are held by women – and that’s the most it’s ever been.) As more…

I have always felt deep in my bones that peace in our world is possible. I have been doubted, challenged, laughed at and ridiculed for this belief.
There will always be wars, it’s human nature. I have heard…

Well, I dislike being the person to say, see I told you so! I can not recall a U.S. Secretary of State being so ill mannered, controversial, unprofessional and rude as Hillary Clinton displayed on her recent trip to Africa. The first faux pas was the snappish [and very childish] retort made to a… Read More »

When it comes to Hillary’s style choices, it seems she’s in a lose-lose situation. She pioneered the pantsuit revival, but some take issue with her signature outfit. When it comes to the “pants saga,” Newsday says the Secretary of State has been looking especially dowdy as of late: “[Her suits are] looking downright shabby, not a bit flattering these days and well, kind of (yikes) jelly beanish.” Clinton Kelly of “What Not To Wear” slings some mud, too: “There’s no doubt in my mind that a colored pantsuit would end up on the top of the trash can on the show. Colored pantsuits are a little silly, outdated and aging. They don’t look like she’s a leader of the modern world.” What’s a Clinton to do?
