Do you think Little Red Riding Hood and
kitty-cat costumes should not have daring necklines, especially
when the wearers don't even have cleavage to show off yet? Or
are plenty kids wearing wholesome costumes and the problem really
lies with our adult culture's obsession with sex (since… Read More »- Let’s talk: Comment (1) | Blog

Author Candace Bushnell might be married to a man 10 years her junior, but don't call her a cougar. In an op-ed out tomorrow in More Magazine, the Sex and the City writer laments the fact that women who break out of traditional roles are then labeled with a derogatory term. We have "ballbuster" female CEOs, "bitchy" politicians, and alas, "cougars." Candace believes that people who use the term cougar are simply ignorant of the real appeal of dating younger men. I remember talking to a friend of mine years ago who told me that she'd never had an orgasm with a man — but that she almost always faked it. It really surprised me because she seemed otherwise like a take-charge kind of woman — confident, beautiful, and certainly not shy. I didn't understand why she'd feel the pressure! (She was an actress, though, so I guess that kind of makes sense.) Most of us are not actresses, or not good ones anyway, and it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to pretend your significant other is doing something right if he's not. Isn't faking something you'd just have to keep doing? And then if you stopped, he'd wonder why whatever he was doing before no longer worked? Read More »

You want to know certain things about the person you're sleeping with — have they ever robbed a bank, hurt a kitten or tipped less than 15 percent for good service. But the debate around whether or not you should ask for (or disclose) the number of partners you've had? I don't get it. Read More »

When to get pregnant is a women's choice. Science allows girls the freedom to procreate after she gets her first period until she goes through menopause. In 1970, the average American age of a woman becoming a mother was 21.7 and in 2006 it was 25. A recent report said that the statistic for the United States is still much younger than that of other countries like Britain and Switzerland where women are 30. Read More »

In a new book, relationship expert Dr. Terri Apter says that women are programmed to not like their mother-in-laws. She says, "Both mother and wife are struggling to achieve the same position in the family — primary woman." The whole concept of women fighting each other for the man's attention is a little tired. How come we never hear about husbands hating their father-in-laws? I think a good relationship with your significant other's parents, mother included, is completely possible, but I guess the potential to butt heads is always there, too. Have you ever had a problem with your partner's mom? Read More »

You may not like reading TMI on Twitter, but would you read a whole book? San Francisco writer Matt Stewart, aspiring to be published, is trying his hand at using the micro-blogging network to get his book published. The plan is that he'll tweet 140 characters of his novel, The French Revolution, at a time. Perhaps with enough followers, Stewart will net a deal with a more traditional publisher. Stewart says that he's calculated his book to last about 3,700 tweets — a tall order for the people who turned to Twitter because of their short attention spans. So would you read a book on Twitter, or would you just say TL; DR?
