Last Friday, the Internet was abuzz with the fact that I answered the question, did you Photoshop the September issue cover photo of Kelly Clarkson? with the answer: Yes. Of course we do retouching (though it's technically not Photoshop, but that is…

It was a cold, rainy February morning in L.A. when the tiniest little girl got out from behind the wheel of one of the biggest SUVs I’ve ever seen (a Cayenne!). It was Vanessa Hudgens coming for her SELF cover shoot and she was adorable! She had on a sweatshirt with a lightning bolt and jeans and was warm and huggy with everyone immediately. She was also incredibly game. Just back from vacation, she said she didn’t realize that the SELF shoot would involve bathing suits and would have prepped more had she known. I don’t know how you’d improve on perfection—every single bikini she pulled on looked phenomenal (damn 20-year-olds!) and she glowed.

We shot Taylor Swift for the March cover on a really snowy day last December in Nashville. It shouldn’t have been as fun as it was. It was a long day, everyone was worried about their flights and stressed about upcoming holidays, but that all went away every time Taylor was in the room, because the girl is like a beam of sunshine. She was so infectiously excited and engaged with the shoot – her first “grownup” cover shoot — that it was impossible to not get excited right along with her.

She swung by the office yesterday and told us about all her amazing projects from HSN to her new skin products (the woman has the MOST gorgeous complexion) and the fact that she is writing a book and oh, yes, almost forgot, just opened a new school in Kenya for kids in need. Serena had beaten her big sis, Venus, the night before at Madison Square Garden, and I love how sweet and soft-spoken she is, as well as beautifully put together, the hair very Marilyn, the body strong and curvy and totally hot (yes, I can say that!) and her creative mind is always churning. I love Jenna Fischer, which is why I haven’t picked up that issue of SELF. I know it would just piss me off. I mean look at the cover: two of the most promiment headlines are “LOVE YOUR BODY SECRETS (Feel Sexier At Any Size)” and “LOSE INCHES ALL OVER (You’ll Be Slimmer In Just 18 Minutes A Day).” I think I love my body more because I don’t read SELF. Self's Diet and Nutrition editor Erin Hobday collaborated with the NY Daily News on eight ridiculous weight-loss products (including the Fuze lip gloss, which I think tastes like dog poo) that will help you lose one thing: your hard-earned cash. Honestly, there are so many ridiculous things on the market *(the Slim Dome much?) that I'm surprised they had the willpower to stop at just eight. Let's take a look at some other doozies, shall we?
