When graphic designer Tracey Falk moved into a tiny 425-square-foot studio apartment in Vancouver, British Columbia, she lacked separate living and working areas. "I didn't want my kitchen table to also function as a desk," she says. "I wanted to be able to walk away from a day’s work and relax." But she didn’t know how to accomplish that in a space the size of a two-car garage since she couldn't construct walls (it's a rental) or add furniture (it would feel cramped rather than cozy). Falk decided to employ the 57-inch-long alcove to the left of her fireplace and build a home office that wouldn't encroach on the adjacent living room. She designed a plan with ample desk space and vertical storage to fit flush in the recess. Then the novice DIYer got down to business. Here are Falk's instructions, featured on PointClickHome.com.
