No, this is not a story devoted to Lady Gaga (although she certainly is worthy of a mention). Plenty of celebrities have sported some way out-there hairdos. Now I'm all for risk-taking, I've been sporting this crazy 'do as of late, but some of these looks are so bizarre that you have to wonder what the heck they were thinking.

Faking a shorter haircut by means of skillfully placed hair pins is nothing new. In fact, we saw Rosario Dawson do her own faux-crop late last year, followed by Nicole Kidman's asymmetric version. In recent times, the look has taken on resurgence in popularity, as celebrities have been tricking us out with their own adaptations, giving the appearance of freshly cut locks. It may not be my place (or maybe it is?), but I think I need to clarify to the world the dos and don'ts of messy updos:
DO rough up the texture of your hair and leave a few stray pieces out of updos for a trendy, messy-chic look (like these styles for example).
DON'T throw greasy and straggly-looking hair into a ponytail and pull some fried looking wisps out to frame your face and walk on the red carpet (this means you Bullock).
Now, I don't want to hate on Sandy, I'm actually a big fan and she usually looks lovely on the red carpet (like in this picture for example). But here, she's taken a messy updo and just made it messy. Her roots look greasy and her ends look fried. A little polishing -- not to mention some shampooing -- would have made this a grade A look. But sadly, that just didn't happen.

At Wednesday's ESPYs, Victoria Beckham completely reminded me of a chilly Hitchcock heroine.
